When his daughter couldn’t sleep, Benjamin J Ames picked up a pink ukelele.

“Tonight You Belong To Me” was written and recorded in mid-1920s but it was popularized, at least for my generation, by Steve Martin’s portrayal of Navin R. Johnson in “The Jerk.” When Benjamin J Ames’s 4 year old can’t sleep (because she thinks she hears fireworks), he helps her pre-occupy her mind by having her sing this memorable song. Benjamin plays his pink ukulele and keeps his daughter’s mind from wondering too much, while she sings.
